The World Cup of iOS - your favourite iOS feature from the last 10 years

September 12 marked a big day in the Apple (and most mobile enthusiasts) calendar. Not only were Apple hosting an event for the very first time in their new Apple Campus but it was also the launch of iOS11 and their new iPhone(s).

This years event had a special significance as it marked the 10th anniversary of the launch of the iPhone and Apple didn't disappoint with the launch of the iPhone X (pronounced 'iPhone Ten - nice nod to the anniversary there!).

When the iPhone launched back in 2007 it quite literally transformed the world of mobile. With so many great features over the years from Copy & Paste and Apple Maps to Siri, Touch ID and the App Store, we decided to see what your favourite feature was from the last 10 years was.

That’s why we launched the World Cup of iOS using Twitter as the platform to find out what feature would win the popular vote. In true digital style we decided to use one of our favourite social media platforms, Twitter, and their polls capability to get the opinions of almost 150 voters.

In the 11 days in the run up to the big reveal of iOS11 we picked 16 iOS features from the last decade and asked our twitter followers to vote for their favourite, whittling it down to one winner!

The rules were simple, round 1 had 4 groups, each with 4 features, with the top 2 features from each group (8 in total) qualifying for the semi finals. The top 2 features from each semi final (4 in total) progressed to the grand final with the winner revealed shortly before the Apple event on September 12th.

The final 4 features to make it to the final included Siri, Touch ID, the App Store and Passbook/Apple Wallet.  It was a close two horse race but the App Store won through with 37% of the votes.

With our apps amassing a whopping 33 million downloads, and the App Store going from strength to strengh over the years we think it was a very worthy winner!
